Applying Custom Groups to your Sharesight account allows you to organise your holdings per your exact specifications. This option is offered in addition to the: Market, Sector, Industry, Investment Type, and Country options.
Custom Groups are typically used for asset allocation reporting. It’s important to note that a Custom Group is a collection of user-defined Categories. Depending on your plan type you can maintain multiple Custom Groups and sets of Categories within.
Custom Groups are saved at the account level, which means they will apply to all portfolios in your account when being used.

Step 1: Go to Account Settings and click on “My Custom Groups”.
Step 2: Add a name for the Overall Custom Group by clicking on the pre-populated name. If left unedited the name will default to the name under which you signed up for Sharesight. If you are allowed multiple Custom Groups you can find them under the button next to the Custom Group name
Note: depending on your plan type, you can create more than one Custom Group. To do so, click the arrow dropdown next to the Custom Group name.
If you already have a few Custom Groups added and you are merely looking to add another go to the little icon next to your current open Custom Group and select ‘Create New Group’.
Step 3: Now you’ll need to begin creating Categories, click Add new category. You can create as many Categories as you’d like within a Custom Group.
Note: A Custom Group is a collection of Categories and Categories are not shared between Custom Groups.
Step 4: Click on the name to enter your Category name and press ‘enter’ to save.
Step 5: To add holdings to your new Category simply drag and drop them from the list of Ungrouped holdings on the left.
Note: This list contains holdings from all your portfolios. You can select more than one holding at a time and add to a Category using the dropdown menu at the bottom of the page.
If your holding list is long, use the ‘Search Instrument’ field on the right hand side of the screen. Filling out the name of the holding or its market ticker or code will make it appear at the top of the list.
The ‘Expand All’ or ‘Collapse all’ feature allows you create more real estate on the page. This comes in handy when you have many Categories, and or many holdings. You can also drag and drop the Categories themselves to rearrange their positioning.
The Custom Groups and categories below is a basic example of how you might use this feature to report on asset allocation. Of course this is just an example, you can create Groups and Categories based on your personal preferences.
Once you’ve created your Custom Groups, they cab be applied in various pages and reports throughout Sharesight.
And the Diversity Report, which will show you asset allocation based on your preferences:
To delete a custom group go to Account Settings > click My Custom Groups and click on the ‘trash can’ icon to delete either your categories or your entire Custom Group which deletes all Categories you added too
