Bulk Update prices for Custom Investments

How to track profit and return

Unlike listed securities, custom investments do not have prices updated automatically. Sharesight uses your buy price as the cost base, but it needs at least one additional price entry (a current or recent valuation) to calculate what the investment is worth today and determine your profit or return. Without a price entered after your purchase, Sharesight has no market value to compare against and cannot calculate any gain or loss.

Start by adding or updating the price:

Step 1 — Add or update the price

  1. Go to Account Settings > Custom Instruments.
  2. Click on the custom investment.
  3. Select the Prices tab.
  4. Enter the current price and date, then click Save.

For multiple custom investments, use Bulk Update Prices to update them all at once.

Step 2 — View profit and return

Once the price is updated:

  • Open the holding and check the Summary tab — this shows capital gain, income, and total return for the current open position.
  • For a full view across a date range, go to Tools > Performance Report, select your date range, and toggle between Monetary Gains (profit in dollars) and Percentage Gains (return as a %).
Keep your custom investment price updated regularly — the more frequently you update it, the more accurate your performance tracking will be.
