Frequently asked questions

Which plan do I need if I have an ISA?

An ISA (Individual Savings Account) is a tax-free wrapper — capital gains and dividend income within an ISA are not subject to UK tax. If you have a single ISA with up to 30 holdings, the Starter plan is sufficient for tracking performance. For more than 30 holdings, the Standard plan gives you unlimited holdings.

Which plan do I need if I have a SIPP?

A SIPP (Self-Invested Personal Pension) is a tax-relieved pension wrapper where gains during growth are exempt. For a single SIPP with up to 30 holdings, Starter covers your needs. For more than 30 holdings, or to track your SIPP alongside another account, Standard is recommended.

I have a GIA, ISA, and SIPP. Which plan do I need?

Each account should be set up as a separate portfolio in Sharesight so that performance and reporting remain accurate for each wrapper. With three portfolios, you will need the Standard plan, which supports up to 4 portfolios with unlimited holdings.

Is the Capital Gains Tax report available for UK users?

The Capital Gains Tax report is not yet available for UK users. Currently, Sharesight offers the Taxable Income report for UK portfolios on the Standard plan and above.

Can the Exposure report look through managed funds?

No — the Exposure report shows your top-level holdings only. It does not look through the underlying holdings of managed funds. If you hold ETFs, the Exposure report can show their underlying constituents, but this is not supported for managed funds.

What is the difference between Starter and Standard?

The key differences are:

  • Portfolios: Starter supports 1 portfolio; Standard supports 4 with unlimited holdings.
  • Holdings: Starter is capped at 30 holdings; Standard has no limit.
  • Reports: Standard adds Taxable Income, Historical Cost, Future Income, Contribution Analysis, Multi-Currency Valuation, Drawdown Risk, and Multi-Period reports not available on Starter.

Can I set my account type to ISA, SIPP, or GIA in Sharesight?

Yes — when creating a portfolio, you can select your tax entity (Individual, Trust, or Company). For Individual accounts, choose your specific account type: General Investment Account (GIA), ISA, SIPP, or Trader. This ensures your portfolio is configured with the right reporting settings for your account.

What counts as a holding?

A holding is a single investment position — for example, shares in a company, an ETF, a mutual fund, or another listed security. Each unique instrument you own in a portfolio counts as one holding.

Is there a discount for annual billing?

Yes — annual billing is approximately 25% cheaper than monthly billing. See Sharesight UK pricing for current rates.
