How can we help?

Tax tab

The Tax tab gives you access to all of Sharesight's tax reports for your Australian portfolio, as well as a high-level tax summary to help you understand your tax position at a glance.

Tax summary

The tax summary is displayed at the top of the Tax tab and pulls key information from your Taxable Income Report and Capital Gains Tax Report. Use the financial year selector to view your tax summary for a specific financial year.

Capital gain summary

Shows your capital gain position for the financial year, broken down into:

  • Total capital gains — gross capital gains from all sales in the period
  • Current year losses — capital losses realised in the current year
  • Net gain before discount — total capital gains minus current year losses
  • CGT discount % — the discount rate applied based on your tax entity type
  • Net capital gain — the final taxable capital gain after applying the CGT discount

Taxable income summary

Shows the total taxable income received from your portfolio for the financial year, including dividends, interest, and other distributions.

Tax details

Displays the key tax settings applied to your portfolio:

  • Tax residency — the country of tax residency set for your portfolio
  • Portfolio base currency — the currency used to report your portfolio values
  • Tax entity type — e.g. Individual, Company, SMSF, Trust
  • CGT discount % — the discount rate applied to long-term capital gains based on your entity type
  • Sale allocation method — the method used to calculate capital gains when you sell shares (e.g. Minimise CGT, First In First Out, or Average Cost)

To update these settings, go to Portfolio Settings.
