How to add an investment manually

1 – On the left side of the ‘Let’s get started by adding some trades’ page, type in either the investment name or code (ticker).

2 – Select the investment from the dropdown menu. You can select the market to narrow down the list of investments in the dropdown menu.

Adding an unlisted investment or an investment on an unsupported market? Select ‘Add a custom investment’.

3 – Select either Buy transaction or Opening Balance.

4 – Select either the trade or Opening Balance date from the dropdown calendar. Select the month and year from the dropdown menus, then the day from the calendar dates.

5 – Type in the Buy trade or Open Balance details. Sharesight suggests the share price and exchange rate.

1Quantity — Enter the number of shares either bought or held at the opening balance.

2 Share Price — Sharesight will indicate the closing price on the purchase date, click on this figure to use the suggested price or type into the field.

3 Exchange Rate (only displayed for overseas shares) — Sharesight will indicate the closing exchange rate on the purchase date, click on this figure to use the suggested rate or type in the exchange rate into the field. Can change the currency from the dropdown menu.

4 Brokerage (optional) — Enter any brokerage paid. Can select currency the brokerage was paid in from the dropdown menu.

5 Cost base - If you are entering an opening balance type in the amount, the investment is worth at the opening balance date.

6 – Click ‘Save this holding’.

The investment will be calculated by Sharesight’s performance calculation methodology which is a money-weighted return methodology, meaning the investment’s performance takes account of the size and timing of cash flow. Sharesight will automatically create dividends and corporate actions for the investment you have imported.

The investment Individual Holding Page will load you can now add additional trades or investments.

We recommend you verify and confirm automatically generated data and set up the broker email import feature to automatically import future trades.
