How can we help?
Importing crypto trades from CMC
Use this guide to import your CMC Invest crypto trade confirmation file into Sharesight. This is a separate process to importing CMC share trades — crypto trades need a few manual edits to the file before it can be imported.
Why crypto trades need extra steps
CMC Invest's downloadable confirmation.csv file doesn't include a market code for cryptocurrency trades, and its Price column shows the average price in AUD rather than a per-unit price in the crypto's own unit. Sharesight treats cryptocurrencies as currencies rather than as priced instruments, so it needs the AUD amount mapped in as an exchange rate instead, with the unit price held constant at 1.
Because of this, a CMC crypto confirmation file can't be imported using the CMC broker tile the way ordinary share trades are — it needs to be uploaded as a generic spreadsheet import instead, after a few columns have been added or renamed.
Step 1 — Download your CMC crypto confirmation file
- Log in to your CMC Invest account.
- Go to Account > Confirmations.
- Filter for your crypto trades and download the confirmation file as a CSV.

As shown above, the file has no column identifying the trades as crypto, and column K (Price) holds the AUD average price rather than a per-unit price.
Step 2 — Edit the file before importing
Make the following changes to the downloaded file:
- Add a new column called Market code and set it to CRYPTO for every row.
- Rename column K from Price to FX Rate — this is the AUD average price CMC originally reported, and Sharesight will use it as the exchange rate.
- Add a new column called Price and set it to 1 for every row — this keeps the unit price constant, since Sharesight treats the crypto itself as a currency.
- Add a new column called Brokerage currency and set it to AUD for every row.
- If the file has values in the GST, Stamp duty, or Fee columns, add a new column called Total brokerage and set it to the sum of Brokerage + GST + Stamp duty + Fee for each row. If those columns are all zero, you can skip this step.

Save the updated file once you've made these changes.
Step 3 — Import the updated file into Sharesight
- Open the Sharesight portfolio you want to import the trades into.
- Click Add investment > Upload via file > Upload via Spreadsheet.
- Upload your updated file.
- Map the CSV columns to the matching trade information, as shown below.

Note: Map the FX Rate column to Exchange rate, and the Price column (the one you added and set to 1) to Unit price. If you added a Total brokerage column in step 2, map that column to Brokerage instead of the original Brokerage column.
- Follow the remaining prompts to review and confirm the import.
