How to import your historical trading data from Google Finance portfolio to SharesightContent also available for tax entities or on our global site.
Don’t worry if your Google Finance has already changed and you didn’t download the OFX file of your Google Finance portfolio. You haven’t missed the chance just yet, for the time being you can still export your Google Finance portfolio from Google using this link: https://finance.google.com/finance and then follow the steps below to import your trade data into Sharesight.
Step by step guide:
1 Login to or Sign up for Sharesight
2 On the ‘Let’s get started by adding some trades’ page, select the Google Finance tile from the ‘Broker & Provider Import’ tab on the right-hand side of the screen.
3 From the ‘Looking to import from Google Finance?’ window, select the Google Finance link.
4 On Google Finance select ‘Download to OFX’ from the ‘Google Finance is under renovation’ banner. This will download all trades you have inputted into Google Finance into an OFX file which can then be uploaded directly into Sharesight.
5 From the ‘Looking to import from Google Finance?’ window, click the ‘Choose file’ button.
6 From the ‘Open file’ window, find and select your Google Finance downloaded OFX file. It is likely the file will be in your downloads folder.
7 Then click the ‘Open’ button.
8 From the ‘Looking to import from Google Finance?’ window, click the ‘Upload’ button.
9 The ‘Trades to import into Portfolio:’ page will show an itemised list of all trades imported from the Google Finance OFX file. Verify and edit the trade data as required. If trades appear in red, this means that Sharesight can’t upload the trade or the trade will cause errors in your portfolio. The solutions to common errors can be found here.
10 Once you have verified the trade data, select ‘Save all transactions’.
11 Once the trades are saved, your Sharesight portfolio will be populated and the portfolio overview page will load.
Your holdings will be calculated by Sharesight’s performance calculation methodology which is a money-weighted return methodology, meaning the investment performance takes account of the size and timing of cash flows. Sharesight will automatically create dividends and corporate actions for the holdings you have imported.
